Trump's, "Big, Beautiful Bill" Eliminates the Excise Tax of Suppressors

Trump's, "Big, Beautiful Bill", is quite lengthy and extensive. It includes tax breaks on overtime through 2028, terminates the IRS's direct file program, limits or terminates, the tax benefit of itemized deductions and more. It also includes Section 112030. Section 112030, intends to eliminate the $200 transfer excise tax for suppressors, a.k.a. silencers, which was put in place by the National Firearms Act of 1934.

Under the "Big, Beautiful Bill", the tax stamp cost would be cut to zero ($0), however the tax stamp application process would remain intact. It would almost be like transferring an AOW on the ATF Form 4. To transfer an AOW on an ATF Form 4, costs $5. But you still have to submit the application to the ATF, submit fingerprints or. EFT File if applying online, passport photos, etc. The zero or free suppressor tax stamp would be very similar.  Some are suggesting that even though the reduction of the tax stamp cost to zero ($0), is very appealing, it still doesn't remove the ATF tax stamp application process itself and government oversight that entails, unlike the hearing protection act.

If passed, all of the "free tax stamp promotions" would disappear and FFL's will have to compete based on price and their level of service, which could be interesting.

Time will tell if the bill will be passed or not. It could be a big step forward in eventually getting silencers treated as title 1 firearms and if passed would at least make suppressor ownership even cheaper.
