How to Find a Missing Cover Letter on the ATF's eForm Website

When applying for a tax stamp using the ATF's eForm website, you will be required to submit your fingerprint cards to the ATF within 10 business days of your application going into the SUBMITTED/IN PROCESS status.  In order to submit your fingerprint cards to the ATF you will need the cover letter.  The cover letter has information that is specific to your application and is how the ATF links your fingerprints cards to your specific application.  You may not have received your cover letter for a few reasons.  If your tax stamp application is in the PENDING RESEARCH phase, you won't receive your cover letter from the ATF until your application is changed to the

SUBMITTED/IN PROCESS status.  If however, your application is in the SUBMITTED/IN PROCESS phase and you haven't received your cover letter this trick might help.

Step 1: Login into your eForm's account - ATF eForm Login / Open your ATF eForm 1 Application

Shown below, you will need to select the SUBMITTED/IN PROCESS link under the My Forms section.  This will then load your SUBMITTED/IN PROCESS forms.  Click the "Form 1" link to load your SUBMITTED/IN PROCESS forms in the middle table. From there you need to click the icon of the "eyeball" under the actions column of the table. This will load your eForm 1 application.

Step 2: Select Electronic Documents from the Menu Timeline / Open your Cover Letter

Once your tax stamp application has opened, you will need to select the "Electronic Documents" link from the menu timeline.  This will load all of the electronic documents related to your ATF eForm 1 application.  In the table, you can click "Form1CoverLetter.pdf".  This depending on your browser, might load your cover letter in a new tab or download the cover letter to your computer.  From there you can print your cover letter and send the cover to the ATF with your fingerprint cards.  You can view how a blank cover sheet and a valid cover sheet looks here.

Step 3: Verify that You Have a Valid Cover Sheet

You can view the difference between a blank cover sheet and a valid cover sheet below.  If you have a blank cover sheet, this indicates that your application is still in the PENDING RESEARCH phase and the ATF hasn't created a cover sheet for you.  Once your application is change to SUBMITTED/IN PROGRESS, you will be emailed a valid cover sheet
