How to See if a Firearm is “Already Researched” on ATF eForms Website

The use of the ATF's eForm 1 website to apply for a tax stamp has become increasingly more popular due to the shorter tax stamp approval times compared to the ATF Form 1 paper application.  When you are applying for your tax stamp using the ATF eForm 1 website, you may want to check to see if the firearm that you are making into an NFA firearm has already been researched by the ATF or not.  If the firearm that you are making into an NFA firearm hasn't already been researched, your tax stamp application can be delayed, while the ATF researches your application.  We have created this short walk-through guide to help you avoid the pending research phase or to find out if your firearm has already been researched by the ATF. 

Step 1: Login into the ATF's eForm website and select ATF Form 1

Step 2: Select any Applicant Type 

Step 3: Intended Use of Form - Select "Line Item" on the Time Line

Step 4: Add Firearm, Enter in Manufacturer Name and Country to View Already Researched Models and Calibers

Step 5: Select the Model and View the Already Researched Calibers

By following the above steps, you can plan your build with already researched calibers, correctly make your ATF 5320.23 (if applying with a gun trust), and see if you are going to be have to wait for the ATF to research your application.
