Yes, the ATF can request proof of registration, e.g. your tax stamp. This information can be found on the ATF Form 1, ATF eForm 1, ATF Form 4 and the ATF Form 5 in the "Important Information for Currently Registered Firearms" which is page 3 of the respective tax stamp application. Proof of Registration: A person possessing a firearm registered as required by the NFA shall retain proof of registration which shall be made available to any ATF officer upon request.
